Hair Cycles
The body hair consists of 3 repetitive cycles. Anagen is of the "active" growing phase which moves to Catagen "regression" then finishes at Telogen which is the "resting" phase. These cycles are dependent upon the individual as well as the area. For permanent hair reduction, treatment must target hair in the "growing" phase (which contains the highest concentration of pigment), therefore several treatments are necessary.
Understanding Intense Pulsed Light (I.P.L.)
Palomar Medilux Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) system offers state of the art, exceptional, fast, comfortable hair removal treatments. By emitting pulses of intense light into the follicle, which is absorbed by the hair pigment, it creates heat. This heat then loosens the hair disabling the cells responsible for new growth, without damaging the skin's structure.
Treatments
Melanin (pigment) is present 6 times greater in the hair than the skin which makes the pulsed light absorb the hair more so, leaving the skin's structure unharmed. A hand held unit is put on contact with the skin which emits intense pulsed light, effectively eliminating dozens of hairs with each pulse, causing a slight snapping sensation. This sensation is easily tolerated by most.
A treatment regime would be discussed during consultation. Some may find after minimal treatments the reduction of volume and coarseness is to their satisfaction. Greater results can be expected when regime completed.

Skin Type: All skin types may be treated from light to dark including tanned.
Hair Type: From light to dark coarse hair - Can't treat "peach fuzz" blonde , grey or white - must have pigment to absorb light pulses.
Where: Virtually any area may be treated with the exception of around the eyes & open cavities. Popular areas: men's backs, facial hair, bikini line, legs & much more.
Speed: Palomar's IPL's advanced technology & larger spot sizes work several times faster than other lasers, therefore Tx time is reduced.
Treatment Experience: Similar to that of an easily tolerated snapping of the skin. If you have ever experienced waxing you'll appreciate the ease of this technology.
Pretreatment: For optimum results clients should be at their lightest skin color prior to & during treatments. (Minimal sun-exposure) Avoid hair epilation (electrolysis, plucking, waxing / sugaring) 4-6 weeks prior to treatment. Hair growth needed for initial consultation only.
Post Treatment: Some redness or tenderness similar to that of a mild sunburn which typically subsides within a day. Hair is purged 7-21 days after. Good quality sun block strongly advised.
Whether due to passage of time, stress, sun exposure, trauma or ethnic background, skin conditions are inevidble & typically most visible on the face, which similar to excess hair can distress one's wellbeing.
On its own Treatments can improve one's tone & texture, while minimizing the harmful effects of daily living. Typically the skins cycle is 25-30 days which slows down more so as we age. Intense Pulsed Light (I.P.L.) Tx. delivers thermal energy to the epidermis stimulating collagen cells resulting in a rejuvenated complexion.
Treatements Entail:
- Minifacial - Cleansing, Toning, I.P.L. Tx., Cooling, Lotion, & Elta Sunblock
- Entire face Tx'd - approx. time 1 hour
- Multiple Tx's needed for gradual improvement - 4 weeks apart
Above Tx's may be combined with vascular lesions, unsightly dilated vessels, broken capilliaries & symptoms of rosacea on the face only. Blood vessels absorb the I.P.L. resulting in coagulation & vascular constriction damaging the vessel lining which contributes to the degeneration & disapperance of vessel.
Vessels generally undergo instant greying or blanching, then fade 1-2 weeks following. Entire face or individual lesion may be Tx'd.
Removal of sun induced brown spots, age spots, mottled pigmentation or freckles, may also be combined with photofacial Tx's or any area of the body . (with exception of around the eyes & open cavities)
Tx of I.P.L. shatters melanocytes breaking down melanin (pigment) which may darken slightly & will gradually slough off with your own body's natural exfoliation process.
Sunscreeens mostly protect from UVB rays. ELTA Block offers the most effective block for UVA rays, Zinc Oxide. Available in a finely micronized form, making it transparent on the skin. ELTA Block---Broad Spectrum, UVB & UVA protection
